Serials in television are series that are a continuing plot that unfolds in a single episode. Serials typically follow main story arcs that span entire seasons or even the full run of the series, for example in Brothers and Sisters Season 4 the main story is Kitty having cancer, but a story hidden within that is a secret place called Narrow Lake which the secret unfolds in the final episode at the end.
In Serials, the story keeps many elements hidden and revealing them by episode to episode so that it will keep the viewers tuning in to learn more about the characters and what happens around them. The shows often recap from past episodes and series at the beginning of each episode. It also shows cliffhangers at the beginning of the show then we see a flash back normally 24 hours before until the cliffhanger is back at the end.
