Wednesday 8th December 2010

Start Of Day
I plan to outline the shanty town drawing in a thin black pen so that it will stand out. If this is completed today, i will then start drawing the city in pencil, so that i can rub out any mistakes.

End Of Day
I finished the outlining of the shanty town. Then i went on to start drawing the city. It is nearly finished, but i have to do one more drawing tomorrow.

Tuesday 7th December 2010

Start Of Day
I plan to print out the logos and then cut them out and glue them down. when this is down, i plan to start drawing the shanty town. I do not expect to start drawing the city today.

End Of Day
I printed out the logos to measured sizes. Then cut them out and stuck them down into the positions that i had measured them to. When this was done, i started drawing the shanty town. This was completed today, but it just needs to be gone over in a thin black pen to make it stand out.

Weekly Plans

All weekly plans can be seen near the back of my work folder. This is why they are not on my blog. I do post daily plans on my blog, but they are not in my folder, as it would take up alot of space in it, (+ paper and ink).

Contingency plan For The Creation Of The Product.

The Contingency Plan can be seen in my work folder. It is under Idea 1, Contingency Plan For The Creation Of The Product. It was created today and is four pages long.

Monday 29th November 2010

First of all, i will create week plan which can be seen with the others in my work folder, (what needs doing, when and what do I need in terms of equipment). Then create a contingency plan for the production of me creating my product this week. After this I hope to start my product. Today I would only need an A1 thick sheet of card, then a ruler, pencil, then a thick black pen and I might need a paper cutter. This would be used to create the boarder on my product, dividing the sheet of card into three parts as you can see in my miniature version in my sketchbook. If this is done today, because I will start working on the product second lesson, I will then start printing out the company logos, and use a paper cutter to cut them.

Thursday 25th November 2010

Here are two screen grabs of where i have been looking up images of shanty towns. This is so that i have some examples and an idea of what they look like, so that it will make it easier when i draw mine.
Screen grab of some of the images in microsoft word, so that i could print them out, and then place them in my sketch book along with the future city concept art. I am also going to but architectural building in my sketch book as well. All this will then help me draw my shanty town and city.
Also in my sketchbook i have nearly finished the design layout of my product. A photo of this can be seen below.:

As you can see it, I have not drawn a city or shanty town yet, this will be done this afternoon. I will be putting rough designs in it. I is not the final thing, It is a miniature of what i will be making next week. Also the cutting out is not as neat, but this will be to perfection next week as I will be using proper equipment like a paper cutter (guillotine).
After this blog post, i will be getting a few more company logos, due to the scale of my actual product that will be done next week. Then place the architectural and shanty town images in my sketch book and work in It. Then last lesson of the day, i want to extend my research on an architect, that i started researching on the other day.

Thursday 25th November 2010

Start Of Day
I want to finish getting the logos, then a copy of the logos to my final layout design so that i can get a sense of what it should look like. I then want to start some shack town designs, and city building.

End Of Day
I have left the logos out as these can be collected next week. I work on my miniature product layout/design and this is done and can be seen in my sketchbook. I then looked up shack towns and city buildings. All this work can be seen in my sketchbook. The work is over 9 pages. I have also made next weeks week plan template ready for next week. I also had to reprint some work as I could not find it in my work folder, so it must had been misplaced. I then had to edit a weekly plan as i had a huge spelling/ grammar mistake, so this had to be sorted.

Wednesday, November 24, 2010

Wednesday 24th November 2010

Start Of Day
Create a layout design of my product, so that i get an idea of what i need. I will be like creating a miniature of my final product. Then get a collection of technology company logos.

End Of Day
I have created a final layout design, but this might change slightly during making the final product next week.
I have got a collection of logos, but i still need to get more, then get a collection of technology company logos.

Frank Lloyd Wright - An Old Architect

Frank Lloyd Wright, original name, Frank Lincoln Wright was bourn in June 8th 1867 and died in April 9th 1959. Before he died, he was an American architect, interior designer, writer and educator, who designed more than 1,000 projects, which resulted in more than 500 completed works. Wright promoted organic architecture (exemplified by Fallingwater), was a leader of the Prairie School movement of architecture (exemplified by the Robie House, the Westcott House, and the Darwin D. Martin House), and developed the concept of the Usonian home (exemplified by the Rosenbaum House). His work includes original and innovative examples of many different building types, including offices, churches, schools, skyscrapers, hotels, and museums. Wright also often designed many of the interior elements of his buildings, such as the furniture and stained glass.

Wright authored 20 books and many articles, and was a popular lecturer in the United States and in Europe. His colorful personal life often made headlines, most notably for the 1914 fire and murders at his Taliesin studio.

Already well-known during his lifetime, Wright was recognized in 1991 by the American Institute of Architects as "the greatest American architect of all time".

architecture Buildings

Here are some architecture buildings.

Architecture

Architecture

Another way to describe my advanced built city is some amazing architectural designs but within them having advanced technology. You cannot see the technology designs in my design as its designing an advanced city, so you would only see the city designs.

Below are some details on what an architectural designer is:

An architectural designer is an architect that works in the design of a building or urban landscapes, as opposed to the construction documents and management required to construct it. (It’s the designs of buildings that will be seen in my product as you cannot see the technology). Architectural designers have good creative skills, imagination and artistic talent. Although most students of architecture are trained to be designers in school, not all become designers in practice. Non-registered designers are similar, but cannot legally refer to themselves as "architectural" designers in most parts of the world. Most are referred to as building designers, especially when not employed by an architectural firm.

Here is where the information a an architecture comes from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Architectural_designer

Tuesday 23rd November 2010

Start Of Day
The first thing that i want to get finished today is the audience feedback. This was previously started last week. What i still need to do is handing out the questionnaires that i created last week to people and let them read my idea and see the example. Each questionnaire will have to be done one by one as each person needs to read and see my idea then answer the questionnaire. The people who fill them in will be able to give feedback in a section below that does not fit into the questions . This will be the easiest way to get feedback now as nobody gave me feedback through the internet - HOTMAIL + FACEBOOK. Then after that, I'll produce a mini document which will give my views on the questionnaire results and feedback and take into account any of the negative views. The questionnaires will be placed in my work folder after they have been completed.

I want to research into architecture designers, as creative looking buildings is what i am going to include in my drawing product.

End Of Day
I have finished the audience feedback on my idea. Then have started looking into architecture. So far i have not found any architecture designers. It has been a long process for looking for a designer.

Monday 22nd November 2010

Start Of Day
Today, i first of all will create the weekly plan for this week, which will be able to be seen in my work folder. Then after this, work of my list of items that need finishing, that i've already started, so that any work don't go astray and get forgot about, cause it won't get finished then. The list can be seen with my week plan, in the folder.

Middle Of Second Lesson
I have created the week plan which can be seen in my folder and have nearly finished the list so far... but i am still working on on the introduction page to the creative buildings, and i still need to do the idea 1 questionnaires. They have been created but have to be printed off. I hope to do this by mid day tomorrow.

End Of Day
I have created the week plan which can be seen in my folder. I have also done the introduction page to the creative buildings section. I want to finish the audience feedback tomorrow. I hope that it will be finished by 1:50pm at the latest.

Checkpoint 1 – 17th November 2010

Checkpoint 1 – 17th November 2010

Description

Most of my work is placed in my folder as I find it easier to work in. I also have some work on my blog and in my sketchbook.

The very first thing that I’ve done was think of my ideas. My ideas have been put into a 2-paged document with short descriptions. Then after that I, expanded on my three ideas, with a wider description of the idea. Also for each idea, I have created a rough layout for what the product would look like. My three ideas are descriptive. I have done a lot of work for the ideas, as the ideas are important as one will be chosen out of them for me then to work on and produce. This took a while as I found it very difficult to understand the exam document. The ideas slowly came along. I have created and presented my presentation, which had two of my ideas in, that interested me the most. After the presentation to the client, I was aloud to choose which idea I wanted to produce as the client like them both and thought that they would be doable. After this I have started the working process on idea 1, looking into cities with futuristic looking buildings, getting future city examples. It is still a work in process. Just yesterday I have started on the audience feedback of idea one, but no one seems to want to give me feedback. Today I am hoping to create a questionnaire for my idea 1 and have people look at my idea and answer the questions.

Analysis

I was surprised by the views of the client after the presentation of my two ideas. I was also aloud to choose which idea I want to work on and produce, and for me, it was idea one where they world and technology come together to create this advanced city as I strongly believe that it can be done. After the presentation, I have started to work and develop my idea, since the presentation. Also gathering feedback on the idea and still gathering feedback on it witch I plan to do tonight or tomorrow when I am not at college.

Evaluation

I found it difficult to think of my ideas due to me finding it hard to understand the exam document. It was a long process for me to understand it and to get my three ideas. Since I have though of my ideas, I have found this exam project quite enjoyable, as I am left alone to do my work. I have needed a rough outline of where I need to go next after finishing an item. At the moment I feel that I am on track. I am looking forward to start producing the product in a week or two’s time. I have also found it difficult to get audience feedback. I have posted a message on Facebook, which leads to a link with my idea on a separate blog, asking if they could read it and give me their views/comments. I have also sent an email to all of my hotmail contacts, but have not received and feedback yet, so this has lead me to creating a questionnaire. This has still to be done, my aims is that it would be fully completed next Monday as I am also going to get member of the class to fill them out as well.

Forward Planning

From today, I plan to create my questionnaire and finish the audience feedback of my idea. They would be place in my work folder afterwards. Any negative feedback from the questionnaires will be taken into account and I would work on the negative feedback with my idea and make it better. I am also going to research online to see an estimate prediction of when the world could, or might be possible to create something like my idea. Even though, I believe with today’s technology, the world could create a city like my idea now ready for around 2025

Next week I shall start to sketch some building designs in my sketchbook, then some designs for a shack town. I shall also use the web to get a huge collection of technology company logos so that I can get a more of an idea of what the product will look like.

Wednesday 17th November 2010

Start Of Day
Start the market research and audience analysis, gather audience feedback on my two ideas that were present in my presentation.

Pete's Hand Written Feedback

Here is a photo of Pete's hand written feedback/comment/notes, that he did during the presentation last Friday. This can also be seen in my folder.
Its his views on how i presented the presentation and views on the ideas.

Monday 15th November 2010

Start Of Day

Today I plan to blog Pete’s comments on my ideas from the presentation from last Friday. After this I then plan to correct and comment on my presentation printout that is located in my folder, then go back to my digital save file of the presentation then edit it to the corrected version that I’ve done to the 1st printed version in my folder then print that out and place it with the hand corrected version. Then start to write a one-page report explaining how I plan to change my idea with the client’s feedback.

End Of Day

I have finished blogging Pete's comments, and I have also hand corrected my printed presentation powerpoint. I then have corrected the digital copy of the presentation and printed that off, which is now located within my folder. The corrected presentation shall be uploaded onto my blog tomorrow. I am half way through the one page report and i shall finish this tomorrow.

Presentation Feedback

Presentation Feedback

Today I had to present the presentation to the client. The presentations were running over the time schedule that was given, so instead of my presentation being at 12:50pm, it was at around 1:05pm. I had been very nervous today because I really find it uncomfortable getting up in front someone to talk or present something to somebody. Later in the day I then found out that the presentation was going to be recorded so that I had proof that I did it when it comes to examining my work, and this made me feel more nervous about the presentation.

When I got into the classroom, I did not know how to start. When I started the presentation, I went straight to the 3rd slide which was the example of idea I as I though that if I talked about the idea before the client saw the example, he might not have understood it as well, so I talked about the idea with the example showing, so that I could explain it bit by bit.

When the presentation was over, Pete (The Client) then gave me his thoughts on the presentation and ideas. He was near enough positive about the presentation, but I made a few mistakes within he creation of the presentation, for example, on the 1st idea example, I included the Coca Cola logo in the example layout image, and the client did not understand what Coca Cola had to do with companies and their technology as it was meant to have technology companies logos as they would have imputed their technology to help create this advanced city in the near future. The client thought that the two ideas would work well and asked me which idea I liked the most, and that was idea one – an advance city. Also one last thing that the client thought that wouldn’t work as well on idea one is that the present day scene was countryside and he though that people would not want to change a lovely countryside into a city. So at the minutes, I think I am going to change it to a poor looking town, as this would have a better effect on the audience. So I believe that idea 1 is my chosen project idea now, and of course I will take in the client’s feedback and make the changes. On Monday 15th Nov 10, I shall begin the work towards me creating the final product.

Up To Date Ideas

Here is the up to date idea page. It includes idea 3 as well.

New Horizons

Idea 1 chosen theme is New Horizons.

New Horizons: How has the global media landscape changed?

How might it change in the near future?

From this theme, I have chosen a topic of Cultural Landscapes Evolving.

Idea 1:

The idea that I am really interested in doing is, on a meter squared piece of card, one half would be a country side, then the other half an advanced built city, but dividing the two would be a strip of worldwide company logos. For example I would put Sony’s and Microsoft’s logo on; this would be showing their technology was used to create this city. It is about what a city would look like if the entire world came together, bringing new technology, ways of creating things, with all cultures together. It’s everyone (Company, Person) with experience and knowledge joining to create something amazing. You can see my idea design on the other page.

Opportunities Provided By Global and Multi-Cultural Audiences

Idea 2 chosen theme is Opportunities provided by global and multi-cultural audiences.

From this theme is have chosen the topic of Company brands spreading over the world and other countries help to create that product.

Idea 2:

My second idea is to create a collage of worldwide products that come all over the world. This I would be exploring where our food, technology, clothing comes from. This would be showing that without the people in the different countries, we would not have our products today. For example Coca Cola first started in Georgia (U.S. state), and now it has spread all over the world. It is in over 200 countries. If John Pemberton did not develop Coca Cola, we would not have it today all over the world.

Idea 3:

On an A1 size piece of card, I would sketch the world, then print out a huge collection of global company and brand logos then cut them out and place each logo in the countries that the company or product is in, then all the logos will make up the world. This is showing Globalisation as the products and company’s is all over the world and I want to show how one product/company starts in one country then spreads to other countries.

11th November 2010

Today i have created an idea 3 and made an example page. This can be viewed in my folder.

I have mainly been working on the Globalisation powerpoint that has to be presented to the client tomorrow. In the presentation i have included my two ideas that work best.

End Of Today:
I have no finished the presentation and it has been uploaded on the blog. It can also be seen in my project folder. I have also place more example cities in my sketchbook. Most of my work so far is in my project folder as i find it easier to work with.

Tuesday, November 9, 2010

Tuesday 9th November

Today i thought about an idea that i could do. I found this very difficult as i feel that the exam paper is not properly explained. I was reading an article (this is located in my folder) and there was a paragraph about Cultural Landscape Evolving, then i thought of the future and what it might look like, then this is how i got my first idea.

New Horizons

The chosen theme for the project is New Horizons.

It’s everyone (Company, Person) with experience and knowledge joining to create something amazing. You can see my idea design on the other page.

Idea 2:

My second idea is to create a collage of worldwide products that come all over the world. This I would be exploring where our food, technology, clothing comes from. This would be showing that without them we would not have our products today. It would be the countries sharing their products, for example Coca Cola first started in Georgia (U.S. state), and now it has spread all over the world. It is in over 200 countries.

Most of my work will be in my folder as i would find it easier to place my work in it, but i will still put work on my blog as well.

Organise A Focus Group

Our focus group had 4 people take part in it. It was done today (19th October 2010).
Today was very difficult doing this as we needed a quite location and we needed 3 to 5 people to watch it in a group then we had to interview them. It took us a very long time to find a location where we could record it in quite. We searched all over the college and most rooms were taken and the only free rooms that was available, were at the time we found them and we was not ready as we did not have our people who would participate in it. When we found a room that is not used now, we tried to find someone so that we could get permission to work in it, but it is a separate key that the site managers have, and we could only use it if we had supervision for the time that we was in it. Then we found a group of people out side and we asked them if they could participate and two of them was willing to participate. Then we came across a small room in the D Block and we filmed it in there. We was still one person shot, so as went out to find Charna, an old course pupil, she saw me. (we had previously seen her and she said that she would like to do it). She was with her friend and asked if he could take part as well so we said yes, so then i took them to the room where were going to film. The room was very small and we all only just fitted in so we was lucky.

Once in the room we set up the laptop so that we could play them the video and then we had a problem. We could not find the video. So Alison loaded up Final Cut and the created another video copy. Once that was done, Sophie then got into position ready to film the 4 people watching our webisode, then we played it.

Once the video has finished playing, Alison then sat down and asked them a set of questions 1 by 1. This was also recorded by Sophie. All the footage was recorded handheld as the tripod was missing a part and there was no other tripods. Once this was completed, we thanked them and then they went and we went back to the classroom and put away the laptop to charge and put the tripod back and put the camera in a safe place so that no one would use it while we was on our lunch break.

After our lunch break, all the footage (them watching the video and interviews) was uploaded onto the Macbook and each part is now being edited by Alison. Not much editing should have to be done as we only have one camera shot view and we only recorded the footage that was needed. The first person that Alison Interviewed said a few words that was not suitable and this might offend some people, so hopefully Alison will edit those words out.

The answers to the questions were all expected as we have had feedback from class member and they have brought up the problems. Same with everyone else, the storyline was not clear enough and people did not really understand it. This is a big problem with our video.

Here is the questions that was asked by Alison:

Focus Group Interview Questions

Webisode Genres: Psychological thrillers, Mystery, Vampirism

  1. 1. Would you agree that the chosen genre’s for the webisode are being represented?
  1. 2. How does the webisode make you respond (emotions)?
  1. 3. Would you continue to watch the second episode? And why?
  1. 4. Does this webisode entertain you? And why?
  1. 5. Does this webisode meet your expectations?

5 questions were asked.

Here are some screen shots form editing the footage. I shall be uploaded at the end of this post.

All the footage will be processed as one video as this makes it quicker and it all is in one place and it will be much easier to watch as you don't have to keep going back and forwards to watch each interview with the footage with them watching the webisode.

The video of the group watching our webisode and interviews have now been uploaded to Vimeo.com
Here is the focus group video:

Comparing Roughcut To Finished Video

The final finished video is very different to our rough cut. In the rough cut no effects were added, but now in the final video, we have alot of effects, which is a light effect. We have cut alot of scenes as this slows the video down and the viewer would find it boring. An example scene of being cut from the final video is Alison walking down the corridor. Picture below:Our final video is 3 minutes and 46 seconds long and our rough cut is 3 minutes and 28 seconds. The final version is longer as we did not add some scenes in the rough cut so we had a big chunk of that missing so now it is in the final video. Our final video would have been longer if we did not cut any footage, as i said some footage slowed the video down.

Here is the Final Version:

Here is the Rough Cut

Title Sequence

Here you can see that we have changed the title sequence in the final version. The text was plain and simple in the rough cut and it appeared on the screen as if someone was typing it on. While this was happening, the background footage as moving, these both at the same time are hard to concentrate on and and for me, you have so many things moving in the background at a fast speed and then you have the titles over the top, makes me sometimes feel sick. So in the final version it was changed. We have a more stylish font for the titles which is very nice and it fits in with the style of the video. The name of the video is on a black background then, the rest to the titles are on a slow moving background which is more gental for the eyes. I feel that this is much better and suitable for the video. Only the name of the video is in a stylish font as we did not have the time to create the rest of the titles like this one so we had to keep with the rough cut titles but with a different background.

Special Effects

The special effects were add after the rough cut. We have many effects in our video and this makes it more believable, but having the effects still don't tell the story to the viewer. The special effects were created by Alison on her PC at home as she had Sony Vegas Pro 9 as Final Cut did not have the after effects that we wanted. So Alison took the footage home to create this amazing light effects. She has also darkend the footage in the woods scenes. In the shot below, you can see the difference between them both with having the effects and without having the effects. You can see that having the effects make it look much better.

New Scene

This scene had been added in after the rough cut. The rough cut was only a work in process version and not all scenes were added in when the rough cut was processed into a video then uploaded. We have the two trees centre stage with the light high up between them, this was done with the effects in Sony Vegas Pro 9. This scene also shows the progress of the character, then she transforms. Our original idea we her disappearing going back in time then coming back, but here she does not, she justs transforms between the two trees.

Significant Change

Significant changes made to the final version was that in the rough cut we had loads of footage of Alison walking down the corridor, through reception and out the doors, then through the car park then heading to the college woods. Showing the process of the character getting to another location slow the video down so much so we had to cut most of that footage. The walking footage stops with the image below, then a shot of a doorr opening, then walking into the woods. The final version looks slightly strange when it keeps cutting, but i feel that we could have had some of the walking footage still in it so that it does not look strange.

Significant changes were also made form the script to the footage as the character was going to go back in time then come back, but as a vampire seeking revenge. But now time travel was included in the final video, it just shows the transformation of her into a vampire, but you do not know this until she bits her boyfriend in the neck in the woods, but then we cannot see her bitting him, so the storyline is more confusing in the final version.

We have tried to respond to the feedback to the rough cut version. But the main problem is that people still don't really understand the storyline. What happens in the woods? Why does she bite or kill her boyfriend? Why is she a vampire? The final version is 10 times better than the rough cut. When i saw the final version compared to the rough cut, it looked so much better, and the effects looked real as well and i did not expect this.

Audience Feedback On Finished Product

Getting audience feedback has be difficult. I have posted messages on Facebook hoping people would read the message and click on the link within it and view the video and give feedback. I the messages i have asked people to follow the link that i have posted and view the video on the website that i have made for the video.
Here you can view the screen grabs of the messages that i placed on facebook:

So far i have not received any feedback for the video from my Facebook post. The only feedback is from the class which is located below. It is disappointing that people cannot spent 5 minutes to watch the video and then give some feedback on it. People now don't really comment because they cannot spent a few minutes of their time to help someone else out, even my friends and family have not taken the time to watch it and comment. People are not bothered about see other peoples work .

This hear is a screen grab of a graph from vimeo of the page views and video views. I did not expect anybody from America to even come across the page because it is halfway around the world. I think that the views in Great Britain are mainly from the class as Facebook had not worked on promoting the video. I have been thinking about going online on Facebook, then talk to the people online and ask them myself if they can watch it and give feedback, but this would take a very long time.
Here is a screen grab of the location of the people who have viewed our video. It has had many page loads than views.

Here is the feedback from the class, which has been screen grabbed from vimeo below:

Only 4 people have given feedback on the video out of the class. This is still disappointing as Me and Sophie have each given feedback on their videos but they cannot take the time to give feedback on ours. The feedback that has been given is quite detailed and it tells us their view on our video.

I have around 70 to 80 friends on Facebook and no one has given feedback, but the class members have given some feedback. This is surprising as My Facebook message got sent to nearly 80 people and no one commented back, but the class of around 20, 4 people have commented. When out of college, people don't want to even hear the word work, and as i asked them to watch it and comment on it, they would relate this to work and ignore the message.
Here is a screen grab of the page views of the webisode i have made for the webisode series The Revenge Of Jessica Hill. It is on blogger. Link: http://therevengeofjessicahill.blogspot.com/. There has not been many page views but at least it shows that some people have followed the link from my Facebook messages and view the blog. It's a shame that no one from Facebook have watch it.

I have just sent an email to all my contacts in my email (Time 12.03 - 18th ) asking if they can watch the video by following the link to the webisode website. Here is a screen grab of that email:

When any replies come, it will upload them. Hopeful by doing this someone will reply with some feedback/comments, even if they are bad comments as the bad stuff is good to know.

If i was to get a reply, i would expect to receive it by Tuesday night, so i will keep checking my email.

Here is the blog that the video was uploaded on and this is the website that people will be going on if the decide to watch the video.

Yesterday i recieved an email back from Dana Kleiman, an old friend. She replied with 'I love the light effects' The reply is not detailed as i hoped for, but it is nice that she has taken the time to watch it and give a comment.
A screen shot of this email is located below. I am still hoping for more replies.

This feedback is important to us as it gives us an understanding of what the viewers expect and have we included this in our video. Getting feedback helps us know what needs changing and is it good enough and is it up to the standards. The viewers view is the most importance thing in the industry. For example, If a creator wants to create a new show for The CW Television Network, a pilot episode would be created ad if the viewing figures are good enough, they would commission a whole season. An example of this is Nikita - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nikita_(TV_series).

Getting feedback for our webisode has been hard. We have posted it on Facebook, I have around 80 friends on it, then i sent an email to my hotmail contacts and i have only had 1 reply out of all.
